Cambodia – The Blind Masseuses

Cambodia has witnessed much tragedy and suffering. Blind masseuses show the Cambodian heart and determination.

Seeing Hands

Cambodia deteriorated throughout the 1970s and 1980s under the Khmer Rouge's homicidal dictatorship. After the Khmer Rouge killed or starved 20% of the people and were eventually overthrown, the country descended into lawlessness. This left many crippled. Battery acid thrown in the faces of torture or mugging victims caused blindness.

As Cambodia heals, blind Cambodians have taken a rare and uplifting step. The Association for the Blind in Cambodia is teaching blind people to be masseuses. "The blind can see with their hands"

Association members travel to locate masseuses. Massage masters are trained. The Association went farther. The Association for the Blind launched "Seeing Hands" massage companies in Sihanoukville, Phnom Penh, and Siem Reap.

If you're in Cambodia, I highly suggest Seeing Hands. Cambodian roads are rough. These massages are great for releasing tension. Friendly masseuses can discover every knot. After receiving one, you'll feel new.

Each Seeing Hands location's costs vary, but they're all low for Cambodia. Best one-hour massages cost $3 to $5.

You'll feel wonderful helping others assist themselves. Many masseuses earn more monthly than sighted persons.
